Rescue of the 15‑Year‑Old
The Coast Guard said crews located the 15‑year‑old clinging to the overturned skiff Monday off Alaska’s coast.
He was in the midst of a medical emergency and showed symptoms of hypothermia, officials added.
Two Fatalities, Including an Infant
Authorities reported that two other mariners died after the 18‑foot fishing vessel overturned about four miles east of St. Lawrence Island.
The victims included an infant, the Coast Guard said.
Search and Recovery Operations
Alaska State Troopers notified the Coast Guard Sunday evening that the vessel was overdue, prompting a search mission that began early Monday.
Poor weather and low visibility delayed launch until Monday morning, officials explained.
A good‑samaritan vessel assisted, rescuing the teen and recovering the bodies of the two deceased mariners, the Coast Guard confirmed.
Transport to Nome
The survivor and the recovered bodies were taken to Nome, Alaska, for further processing, the agency stated.
Additional Coast Guard Rescue
In a separate incident, the Coast Guard rescued eight people, including an infant and a child, after a vessel capsized off Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
Air crews spotted the survivor, dropped a raft with survival gear, and a civilian vessel helped retrieve the victims, officials reported.
