President Donald Trump said Saturday in Ireland that he would love to see a unified Ireland, calling it a great thing and a feather in everybody’s cap.
Trump Calls for Irish Unification
The Republic of Ireland broke from the United Kingdom in 1922, while Northern Ireland, created in 1921, has remained part of the U.K.
Speaking on stage with Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Trump said he had friends on both sides and believed unification would happen eventually.
He added that the U.K. would have a say, but reiterated that a unified country would be a great achievement.
