Jasmine Crockett (D‑TX) stunned the audience at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Saturday night by stepping onto the stage during Chris Brown and Usher’s joint “R&B Tour” to insert a formal entry into the U.S. Congressional Record honoring both artists’ careers. She appeared alongside Texas state Rep. Venton Jones and producer Roccstar, declaring she “couldn’t miss” the hometown show.
Crockett said the recognition aimed to permanently document the singers’ decades of influence on R&B music and entertainment. The gesture added a political flourish to the concert.
Crockett Honors R&B Legends in Congressional Record
Brown embraced Crockett after the announcement, thanking Dallas‑area fans for their support. Crockett warned the capital was “full of a few scammers” compared with the “real one” on stage.
Social media erupted with criticism tied to Brown’s 2009 felony conviction for assaulting Rihanna. Users accused Crockett of hypocrisy for celebrating a musician with a domestic‑violence record after previously targeting fellow Democrat James Talarico over Black voter outreach.
Crockett’s office had not responded to the criticism as of Sunday. The silence left the debate unresolved.
The co‑headlining “R&B Tour,” a name referencing both the genre and the performers’ shared initials, launched in June. It has generated viral clips beyond Saturday’s cameo, including audience interactions during both artists’ sets.
Crockett, who represents Texas’s 30th Congressional District, lost the state’s Democratic Senate primary to Talarico in March by an eight‑point margin. The loss came after a competitive primary battle that highlighted internal party tensions.
