Stockbridge, Ga. — 23‑year‑old Jayden Williams, the city’s youngest mayor, was removed from office this month after a rapid fallout over alleged misconduct. The ouster came just ten months into his historic tenure.
Youngest Mayor Ousted
Williams, who took office in January, became the youngest Black mayor elected in Georgia history while still a student at Clark Atlanta University. His brief tenure was marked by energetic campaigning and a focus on youth issues.
The Stockbridge City Council impeached him earlier this month, citing concerns that he misused city funds and engaged in an inappropriate relationship with an 18‑year‑old high school student. He denied any sexual activity, stating the relationship was not sexual.
Williams admitted to exchanging nude photos with the student, saying it was typical for someone his age. He told WSB‑TV that the exchanges were not criminal because the student was an adult under Georgia law.
He also acknowledged spending city money on personal purchases, claiming the $5,000 annual budget he reallocated covered the costs and that he repaid the amount immediately. The city purchasing card resembled his personal card, prompting him to replace both to avoid confusion, according to Fox 5.
NBC News reported that Williams admitted to the nude‑photo exchanges, and a police report confirmed no criminal violations. ‘I would have to somewhat agree that it was inappropriate,’ he told WSB‑TV.
‘There was no violation of the oath,’ Williams said, noting he was not yet mayor when the relationship began. The council’s impeachment vote sealed his departure after only ten months in office.
