Phil Collins Slams Trump, Teases ‘Fat People With Guns’ Ahead of Rock Hall Honor
British rock legend Phil Collins denounced President Donald Trump as “nasty” and “unattractive” in a Friday interview with Piers Morgan, saying the president’s demeanor lacks the eloquence historically expected of U.S. leaders.
Collins, 75, added that he has an unwritten song titled “Fat People With Guns” that he says “is about America,” a phrase he recorded to keep from forgetting it.
The comments come weeks before the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announces his induction as a solo artist, a milestone that underscores his enduring influence despite controversy.
“Presidents have historically been eloquent and elegant; even when you disagree with them you respect the office,” Collins told Morgan. “Trump’s behavior erodes that respect.”
Critics argue that artists who broaden attacks beyond individual politicians risk alienating audiences, according to Doug Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR.
“Most Americans focus on elections during election years; broader cultural criticism can feel like an affront to the nation itself,” Eldridge said in June.
Sarah Schmidt, president of Interdependence, warned that mocking national symbols can trigger swift backlash because fans ultimately fund the artist’s career.
“If an artist ridicules a USA chant, the response is intense because it targets the public, not just policy,” Schmidt explained.
Collins also questioned whether Trump might attempt to overturn the two‑term limit, noting that the Constitution explicitly bars a third election.
“I’m not a political person, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he tries to ignore the two‑term rule,” Collins said.
Trump dismissed the speculation in August, telling reporters that the 22nd Amendment is “very strong” and that he has no plans for another campaign.
Fox News Digital contacted the White House for comment and received no immediate response.
