Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello, a 61‑year‑old emergency physician from Charlotte, was arrested Aug. 22 after police say he opened fire on a moving Jeep, wounding two sisters aged 12 and 20.

Arriviello drove north on Interstate 77 around 8:50 a.m., about three miles north of the North Carolina‑Virginia border, when he allegedly fired into the Jeep traveling alongside him.
Virginia State Police reported that the gunfire struck both sisters in the legs, and they were airlifted to a hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries.
Arrest and Charges
After the shooting, Arriviello fled in his Mercedes‑Benz, but troopers located and stopped the vehicle roughly 15 miles away, taking him into custody.
He now faces multiple felonies, including malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle, intentional bodily harm with intent to maim, and unlawful firearm use during a felony, according to the state police press release.

North Carolina Medical Board records show Arriviello has held an emergency medicine license since 2010 and has no public disciplinary actions.
