The AI revolution is fueling a new wave of blue‑collar hiring, with Meta, BlackRock and Google pouring money into skilled‑trade training.

Lowe’s Announces 1‑Million‑Tradesperson Initiative

Lowe’s and more than 75 partners formed the Building Futures Skilled Trades Coalition to train and certify one million tradespeople by 2035.

Janice Dupré, executive vice president of human resources and chair of the Lowe’s Foundation, said the effort builds on a four‑year program that originally targeted 250,000 workers.

Massive Shortage Threatens Economy

The United States faces a shortage of two million skilled‑trade workers, costing the economy roughly $1 trillion each year.

Dupré warned that for every five retirees, only two new entrants join the field, eroding the workforce over decades.

Fast, Affordable Training Paths

Programs can certify electricians or plumbers in as little as 90 days, with deeper tracks lasting up to six months.

Dupré noted that these pathways deliver high‑pay, low‑debt careers, with master tradespeople earning six‑figure salaries.

AI Fuels Demand for Hands‑On Labor

Data‑center construction and AI‑driven infrastructure projects are driving fresh demand for skilled labor.

Dupré said AI will not replace tradespeople but will speed problem‑solving and expand hands‑on experience.

Lowe’s shares slipped 1.61% to $204.70, while Nvidia rose 1.48% to $220.78.
