Roy Cooper’s immigration record is under intense scrutiny as critics say his sanctuary policies have allowed violent criminals to remain in North Carolina.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Matias Gonzalez Garcia, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, in Lillington after a 2018‑19 arrest record showed charges including carrying a concealed weapon, assaulting a government official, resisting an officer and violating probation.
Garcia’s prior offenses illustrate the loophole critics cite: a convicted felon who should have been deported but remained free under Cooper’s watch.
“Roy Cooper lets violent felons out of prison and protects scumbag criminal illegal aliens like Garcia from deportation. Cooper is weak, woke, and a vessel for the socialists taking over the Democrat Party,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
