Jalon Daniels to Start for Buccaneers as Mayfield Injured
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie Jalon Daniels will make the first start of his career Sunday after Baker Mayfield suffered a dislocated right thumb.
Daniels, the former Kansas Jayhawks standout, said he will stay composed and play his own game, drawing on lessons from college.
“Absolutely. I think that one thing I learned in college was, you can’t be the thermometer, you have to be the thermostat,” Daniels told reporters. “You have to set the temperature of the room, not blend in.”
He added that he will match the team’s energy, staying even‑keel regardless of the situation.
“If we’re high, I have to be low; if we’re low, I have to pick it up. I try to be as even‑keel as possible so the team around me feels that.”
