A mother in Pennsylvania stunned a resort community after stabbing her husband and three‑year‑old son before attempting suicide.

Incident Details

Police responded Monday to the Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains. A 27‑year‑old woman, identified as Metallica Harrison, allegedly stabbed her 31‑year‑old husband Charles and their three‑year‑old son in a guest room.

Authorities said she called 911, claiming she needed help ending her own life, and told the operator that her husband and son were already dead. She made the call before officers arrived.

She told the dispatcher she was too weak to stab her neck, that her knives were ineffective, and that she required assistance to die. She also said she needed help dying.

When officers arrived, she reportedly said she wanted to be with her family and showed self‑inflicted cuts on her wrist and puncture marks on her neck. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Investigators recovered a large butcher knife and a smaller knife in the bathroom; resort staff said such weapons are not normally kept on site. Police are reviewing how the weapons entered the room.

Resort Response

Great Wolf Lodge issued a statement saying the incident was an isolated family matter and that it is cooperating fully with Pocono Township Police. The resort emphasized that guest safety remains its top priority.

The resort added that it asks all further information be directed to law enforcement out of respect for the victims and the investigation. It declined to release additional details pending the probe.

Broader Context

Nancy Mace, a U.S. Representative, highlighted the case on Twitter, labeling it part of an epidemic of killer moms and linking to a report that documented recent filicide cases. Her tweet has amplified public discussion on the issue.

Legal analyst Catherine Salgado has reported several similar tragedies, including a Texas mother who killed her four‑year‑old after a custody ruling and another Texas woman who murdered her teenage sons before attempting suicide. These cases illustrate a troubling pattern.

While overall maternal filicide rates have not shown a clear upward trend since the pandemic, recent high‑profile cases have sparked renewed media attention. Experts note that each incident warrants careful investigation.

Prosecutors have charged Harrison with two counts of criminal homicide; she remains hospitalized under psychiatric evaluation. The charges are pending trial.

Investigators will determine whether the attack was a sudden snap or a premeditated act after the family stayed at the resort for two to three weeks. Authorities expect to release findings as the case proceeds.

The case underscores the need for vigilance and support for families facing domestic crises. Community resources and counseling services are being highlighted as essential.
