Armed robbery rocks Greenville Costco
Greenville police responded Thursday to the Costco on Woodruff Road after receiving reports of an armed robbery in progress, the department confirmed.
Officers identified the suspect as 24‑year‑old Jose Alejandro Giraldo, who allegedly entered the store with a machete and a pickaxe and claimed he had a gun when confronted, according to WSPA 7News.
Shoppers and store employees restrained Giraldo inside the warehouse until officers arrived, FOX Carolina reported.
One customer was injured while helping subdue the suspect, prompting emergency medical personnel to respond, though the extent of the injuries was not disclosed.
Giraldo faces charges of armed robbery and third‑degree assault and battery, according to both police and FOX Carolina.
A mugshot of Giraldo was released by the Greenville County Detention Center.
