A new ad from Independent Women’s Voice warns that socialism could reshape America by 2050, targeting young women voters.
Ad depicts dystopian future
The commercial follows a young woman who declares, “I hate it here, just get me to the future,” as a mad scientist reminiscent of Doc Brown appears and promises to take her there.
They arrive in 2050, where the scientist boasts, “Housing is guaranteed now. Everyone gets a home of their own,” but the woman learns she cannot choose her location.
At a government‑run grocery store, she receives a $100 coupon while eggs cost $40, and police no longer exist when a robbery occurs.
In a free‑healthcare system, she waits 72 days for a doctor, prompting her to rip down a Democratic Socialists of America poster as the message “Beware of the gap between promises and reality” flashes.
DSA policies referenced
Democratic Socialists of America and allied politicians have promoted several of the ad’s proposals, including government‑run grocery stores and universal healthcare.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has selected a site for his first government‑run grocery store, promising prices 30% below market rates and “fast and free” bus service.
Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El‑Sayed runs on Medicare for All, arguing that private insurance will become redundant rather than banned.
DSA’s Social and Economic Bill of Rights calls for free or low‑cost post‑secondary education and a “right to leisure time,” insisting that eight hours of work, eight hours of rest, and eight hours of personal choice are essential for a participatory democracy.
The organization says capitalism’s profit drive limits Americans’ leisure time, a claim that underpins its broader agenda.
DSA response
DSA did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the ad reflects its vision of America in 2050.
