ICE officers shot a suspect in the Bronx, who remains hospitalized after the incident.
Targeted enforcement operation
DHS said ICE officers were pursuing a Dominican Republic national with prior assault and weapons convictions, linked to the Trinitarios gang.
The suspect had been arrested by NYPD in December 2023 for assault and released days later.
At 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 8, officers moved to arrest him in a residential vehicle in Marble Hill, where they exchanged fire and wounded the suspect.
Aftermath and investigations
FBI and Homeland Security Investigations agents arrived on scene; the incident is under investigation.
Photos posted on social media showed bullet holes in a vehicle and a federal agent in a high‑visibility vest wielding an assault rifle, according to The Intercept.
Political reaction
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called President Donald Trump, demanding an end to ICE enforcement in the city and labeling the shooting “unconscionable.”
Mayor Mamdani warned that ICE actions endanger residents and called for the agency to be removed from neighborhoods, hospitals and schools.
DHS emphasized that sanctuary policies forced officers to conduct the arrest in a public setting, increasing risk to the public and officers.
More details will be released as the investigation proceeds.
