Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was arrested on July 12 on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, police reports confirm, and he now faces additional citations in Milwaukee.
Arrest and Legal Charges
Romo was stopped on a highway, failed field sobriety tests, and was released the same night, with a court date set for September, according to newly filed Milwaukee court records.
The records list charges of first‑offense operating while intoxicated, unsafe passing on the right side, and possession of open intoxicants inside his vehicle, the New York Post reported.
A spokesperson for Romo said he “accepts full responsibility” and characterized the matter as a civil issue, adding that he is working with local authorities to resolve it and discussing next steps with CBS.
Broadcasting Future
CBS Sports placed Romo on leave from his broadcasting duties immediately after the arrest, and the network has not announced a return date.
Boomer Esiason speculated that Romo’s time in the booth may be over until he “gets things straightened out,” while CBS Sports president David Berson said the situation remains “evolving” with no timetable for a decision.
Romo’s legal team indicated the case is a civil matter, but the new citations could complicate his standing with the network.
