Trump Claims Iran War Is Over, Yet Contradicts Himself Daily
President Trump appeared on Fox News Thursday, declaring the conflict with Iran effectively finished while acknowledging it remains ongoing, and blasted the news media as “fake news” that serves Tehran’s agenda.
Voters and analysts say the president’s daily flip‑flopping, not the media’s coverage, fuels frustration as the war shows no clear end.
Since the war began, Trump has repeatedly altered his stance, saying the fight is over, still raging, imminent, or requiring Iran’s unconditional surrender, often on the same day.
In the past two months, Trump announced a cancellation of planned strikes on June 11, then warned the United States would hit Iran “VERY HARD TONIGHT,” and claimed on June 10 that the United States “CONTROLS the Strait of Hormuz — NOT Iran.”
He also declared on May 23 that “Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly,” and on April 5 demanded Iran “Open the F-ckin’ Strait.”
Earlier statements include “We’ll be leaving very soon” (March 31), “They are ‘begging’ us to make a deal” (March 26), “Iran is totally defeated and wants a deal” (March 13), and “I think the war is very complete, pretty much” (March 9).
These contradictory remarks have left the public uncertain about the war’s status, the likelihood of a deal, and the condition of the Strait of Hormuz, which remains a flashpoint.
Gas prices have risen more than 30 percent since last year, and inflation has erased recent wage gains, intensifying voter anger as the president continues to withhold clear, consistent information.
If no credible deal emerges and the Strait remains contested, Trump should stop claiming victory, experts say, noting that honest communication could reduce the war’s political liability ahead of the November midterms.
