Whitaker told “The Big Weekend Show” that continued Ukrainian attacks are bringing Moscow and Kyiv closer together. He warned the parties remain far apart on core issues.
He emphasized that a diplomatic solution, not battlefield victories, will end the conflict. He noted that both sides must cooperate.
Trump added that 25,000 people died last month and 32,000 the month before in the Ukraine‑Russia war. He called the toll a “shame.”
Finnish President Alexander Stubb credited Trump’s pressure for moving the peace process forward. He dismissed concerns that Russia might expand its invasion.
Trump told reporters on the White House lawn that 25,000 people died last month. He added that the previous month saw 32,000 deaths, mostly soldiers.
Stubb said Trump’s business‑oriented approach is coaxing both leaders toward a deal. He noted Russia has lost up to 450,000 soldiers since the 2022 invasion, according to the Center for Strategic & International Studies.
If Putin refuses to compromise, Whitaker said a deal will be impossible. He remains confident Trump can broker terms.
Whitaker added, “But I think if there’s a deal to be made, President Trump is a businessman, he’s a dealmaker, and I think he’ll make the deal.”
The United Nations will hear Zelenskyy’s call for an off‑ramp from the years‑long conflict during his upcoming speech. Trump signals a peace agreement is near.
