A former Reagan administration national security official warned that a “red‑green alliance” of radical Islamists and far‑left socialists is actively working to destroy the United States. He said the partnership poses a direct danger to U.S. security.
Red‑Green Alliance Threatens U.S. Security, Says Expert
Frank Gaffney, a former assistant secretary of defense under President Ronald Reagan, told Fox News Digital that the Democratic Socialists of America and Islamist movements are cooperating around a shared anti‑American agenda. He said the partnership poses a direct danger to U.S. security.
“One can argue that the Sharia supremacists are pursuing communism with a God, a veneer of religiosity,” Gaffney said. “Fundamentally, they are at the hip in totalitarianism and willing to make common cause to destroy the United States.”
Gaffney served as assistant secretary of defense for international security policy under Reagan, earned a master’s from Johns Hopkins, founded the Center for Security Policy in 1988 and now leads the Institute for the American Future. He brings decades of national security experience to his warning.
The “red‑green alliance” links far‑left movements, symbolized by red, with Islamist groups, symbolized by green, creating a coalition that opposes the U.S. constitutional system. This cooperation, he argues, threatens the foundations of American democracy.
During a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing titled “Hidden in Plain Sight: Confronting the Muslim Brotherhood Network in America,” Senator Ted Cruz questioned Kyle Shideler of the Center for Security Policy about alleged ties between the Muslim Brotherhood and the DSA. Cruz framed the issue as a national security concern.
Shideler agreed, saying he has seen evidence that the red‑green alliance shares a revolutionary objective to undermine Americanism and the Constitution. He said the evidence comes from open-source reports and intelligence assessments.
Cruz posted on X that the threat “cannot be ignored because it is politically inconvenient,” citing the expert testimony that the Muslim Brotherhood and DSA are united by hatred of America. The tweet underscored the urgency of the alleged alliance.
Gaffney added that the two movements are “perfectly willing to make common cause” around an immediate shared objective of destroying the United States. He warned that inaction would embolden the coalition.
The alliance has also fueled worldwide protests targeting Israel and Jews, with well‑funded leftist and Islamist groups organizing “Nakba 78” demonstrations. Authorities say the protests are coordinated across multiple continents.
Muslim scholar Dalia Ziada, who fled Egypt after criticizing Hamas’s October 7 attacks, warned that the sinful marriage of radical left and radical Islam threatens U.S. politics and Western society. Ziada said the alliance undermines liberal democratic values.
A Fox News Digital investigation identified roughly 425 organizations — communist groups, Muslim advocacy groups and anti‑Israel coalitions — that together generate about $1 billion in annual revenue. The revenue figure highlights the scale of the organized network.
