President Donald Trump has endorsed North Carolina state Rep. Jennifer Balkcom, the new Republican nominee for the 11th Congressional District.
Trump Endorses Balkcom
Trump announced his support in a Truth Social post on Monday, calling Balkcom an “America First Patriot” and urging voters to back her.
Balkcom was selected this month after incumbent Rep. Chuck Edwards, R‑N.C., ended his re‑election campaign.
“It is my Great Honor to endorse America First Patriot, Jennifer Balkcom, who is running to represent the wonderful people of North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District!” Trump wrote.
Edwards Drops Bid Amid Ethics Probe
Edwards announced his withdrawal on Aug. 5, citing the recent House Ethics Committee report that recommended censure.
The committee found that Edwards “engaged in persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two young female staffers,” according to the report.
Investigators detailed lavish gifts, comments on appearance, invitations to intimate dinners and vacations, and notes expressing “effusive affection,” the report said.
While Edwards denied any sexual or romantic intent, the panel concluded his pattern would lead a reasonable observer to view it as such.
