Pulido Defends Controversial Music Video
In a 2016 interview, Democratic congressional candidate Bobby Pulido defended Tejano singer Gerardo Ortiz after a graphic video depicted a man shooting his girlfriend’s lover, handcuffing her, and setting a car on fire. Pulido called the footage “artistic direction,” saying artists decide what images stay in their work.
He argued that regional Mexican music has long featured violent scenes, comparing the video to traffic slowdowns after a car accident. He said the public has become desensitized to such content.
Pulido’s Past Controversies Surface
Running for Texas’ 15th District, Pulido challenges incumbent Rep. Monica De La Cruz, who won 57.1% to 42.9% in 2024. His campaign has drawn attention for past posts linking to explicit websites, a 2024 claim that “it’s impossible to have Twitter and not watch porn,” and a photo of him pouring water on Donald Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star. In 2018, Pulido denied knowing a registered sex offender was present at a middle school benefit concert, calling the coverage a “nothing story” according to Axios.

Political Reactions
Republican National Committee spokesperson Zach Kraft condemned Pulido, labeling him “a truly sick individual” who has defended predators and attacked law enforcement. Kraft said Pulido’s history of downplaying misconduct makes him unfit for office.
Democratic opponents criticize his remarks that half of the police officers he interacted with are “abusive a‑holes,” demanding accountability. They argue his past behavior undermines public trust in law enforcement.
The Pulido campaign has not responded to requests for comment on his defense of the video or his overall record. The campaign declined to comment when asked for clarification.
