New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani faces intense backlash as his annual 9/11 remembrance message remains virtually unchanged since 2019, sparking accusations of insincerity and political opportunism.
Pattern of Repetition
Mamdani’s 2024 post mirrors his 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019 statements, each citing the same mourning language while omitting details about the attacks, first responders, or responsible parties.
“We mourn our neighbors who died that day. The countless first responders and families whose lives were forever changed. The millions who suffered in the wars that followed,” he wrote, a phrasing repeated verbatim across six consecutive years.
Critics Condemn the Copy‑Paste Approach
Venture capitalist Adam Fisher, a supporter of Israel, called the message “repulsive moral equivalence” and warned that Mamdani “talks like a propaganda parrot” on X. He said the repeated wording undermines genuine remembrance.
The Uri noted the same identical Holocaust Remembrance Day post from 2021 through 2023, adding that Mamdani “loves the practice of copy+paste.”
Progressive account Lee Yimby argued Mamdani felt obligated to post annually while serving in the Assembly, saying he “cut and pasted the same 9/11 statement four years in a row.”
Former Democrat David Sivella, now identifying as a Socialist Muslim, condemned the lack of specificity, stating Mamdani “never mentions 9/11 first responders” and instead “posts about Gaza.”
Political Fallout
9/11 families have demanded Mamdani be barred from the 25th‑anniversary ceremony, labeling his record “hostile.” GOP senators have rallied behind the families, calling him “a disgrace.”
Financier Bill Ackman highlighted the omission of how the victims died, who was responsible, and the hijacking of the planes, accusing Mamdani of implying “they died of natural causes.”
Mamdani’s office has not responded to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
