Rep. Lauren Boebert (R‑CO) denied a sworn ethics complaint alleging she had sexual relationships with three congressional aides, a violation of House rules. The claim could trigger disciplinary action.
Ethics Complaint Alleges Misconduct
Boebert told Sources Say News she is neither lesbian nor bisexual and has never engaged in any inappropriate or sexual relationship with staff. She made the statement in a direct interview.
David Wheeler, head of the political action committee American Muckrakers, filed the complaint with the House Ethics Committee on Thursday, accusing Boebert of relationships with former district office manager Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, a current senior aide, and a former aide. Wheeler said the allegations are based on multiple witnesses.
The filing cites encounters in a district office, a campaign‑reimbursed vehicle and hotel rooms booked with campaign funds, and alleges Boebert arranged a $200,000 payment to Navarro Ratzlaff in March 2025 after she left the office and threatened to file her own complaint. The payment amount and source remain undisclosed.
Wheeler said he does not know the source of the money, and the portion of the complaint describing how he verified the payment is redacted in the public version. The redacted section prevents full verification of the transaction.
Navarro Ratzlaff called the allegations “entirely false, defamatory, and beyond ridiculous,” according to the Colorado Times Recorder. Her ex‑husband Jayson Boebert labeled them “propaganda” in a message shared by Wheeler.
The complaint rests on unnamed sources whose notes have not been released, while the Ethics Committee cited a 2018 rule that bars members from sexual relationships with employees under their supervision, a provision previously invoked in the 2019 investigation of Rep. Katie Hill. The rule underscores the seriousness of the allegations.
Boebert’s remarks in April — calling on Congress to “go to church, find Jesus” and questioning why colleagues were “so horny” after recent misconduct resignations — have drawn renewed scrutiny. The remarks follow a September 2023 incident at Denver’s Buell Theatre where security footage showed her and then‑boyfriend Quinn Gallagher groping, vaping and taking flash photos.
