Defense’s Insanity Claim Crumbles
Lindsay Clancy allegedly kept silent about hearing a male voice urging her to kill her children until after she strangled her three children.
Legal experts say the delay in revealing the alleged voice creates a critical weakness in the defense’s insanity claim, according to Lynden Blake, host of The Daily Wire’s “That’s So Criminal” podcast.
“We’ve heard from multiple people that after the murders, Lindsay said there was a male voice telling her to kill her kids, and if she didn’t, they wouldn’t be safe,” Blake said. “The same voice is claimed to have driven her intrusive thoughts, which she reportedly experienced before the killings.”
The omission raises serious doubt, Blake added, and the burden of proof rests with the prosecution to prove Clancy acted criminally when she killed her children.
Patrick Clancy, her former husband, testified that a week after the murders, Lindsay called from the hospital claiming a man’s voice told her to act now or lose her chance, and that she had never mentioned hearing a voice earlier.
Hospital chaplain Sheila Cavanaugh said Clancy told her on Jan. 31 — exactly one week after the killings — that a persistent male voice warned neither she nor her children would be safe if she didn’t obey, though prosecutors noted those statements were absent from her contemporaneous notes.
Clancy, a 36‑year‑old former labor and delivery nurse, endured severe mental strain after giving birth to her third child, Callan, and was prescribed more than a dozen psychiatric medications in the months leading up to the murders, her family said.
She now faces three counts of first‑degree murder.
