A deadly mass shooting erupted Wednesday inside a downtown Minneapolis high‑rise, killing at least two people and wounding several others, including three police officers. The suspect also died, authorities confirmed.
Mass Shooting in Minneapolis Leaves Two Dead
Three Minneapolis police officers were injured during the response. One suffered a non‑life‑threatening gunshot wound to the leg, another is undergoing surgery after being shot, and a third sustained a non‑gunshot injury, authorities said.
The shooting began after police answered a domestic disturbance call at an apartment building near 15 East Grant Street, where the suspect had been evicted earlier that day, a source told KSTP.
Police have not released a suspected motive, Sgt. Garrett Parten said during a press conference.
When officers entered the building, they heard additional gunfire and encountered victims, then moved to an upper floor where a haze severely limited visibility, Parten added.
The suspect is dead, Parten confirmed, and media reports suggest the death was a suicide.
Democratic Gov. Tim Walz posted “Pray for Minnesota” on X, urging prayers for the victims and officers.
FBI Director Kash Patel said he was aware of the incident and would provide “any and all resources necessary” to local authorities.
Aerial footage shows a heavy Minnesota police response, including SWAT vehicles, surrounding the downtown building.
Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan thanked first responders and said her family is praying for the officers’ swift recovery.
This is a developing story.
