Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to abandon their California home and return to the United Kingdom, establishing a new base for their family.

The couple and their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, will head back across the pond later this month after relinquishing senior royal roles and settling in California during the coronavirus pandemic, The Telegraph reported.
With the children slated to start school in September, Harry and Meghan plan to keep their Montecito estate and a Portugal villa, the same source added.
Years of bitter tension between Harry and his estranged family have culminated in this move, the report said.
In July, King Charles III privately met with Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove House, marking the first family gathering since the rift erupted, The Daily Wire reported.
The 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, in which the couple accused an unnamed royal of concern over Archie’s skin tone, and the subsequent Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir “Spare,” deepened the divide, multiple outlets noted.
Harry remains estranged from his brother Prince William, according to several reports.
After losing his appeal over government‑funded security in Britain in 2025, Harry told the BBC he hoped to reconcile with his family, saying “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight anymore; life is precious,” and adding that the security dispute “has always been the sticking point.” He also referenced his father’s cancer battle, saying he did not know how much time the king had left.
King Charles is aware of the couple’s plans and “welcomes the opportunity,” PEOPLE reported.
GB News commentator Patrick Christys criticized the timing, arguing that many will be annoyed by the couple’s disparaging remarks about Britain, their alleged racism accusations against the monarch and Catherine, and their lack of empathy for Catherine’s cancer diagnosis, calling their behavior “vile.” He questioned whether the move is motivated by the children’s schooling rather than genuine reconciliation.
