San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol corralled a runaway bull on Highway 35 Tuesday night, ending a hazardous chase that threatened motorists.
Local Foreman Steps In
Deputies called Samuel Ramos Palomino, a Sea Horse Ranch foreman with 35 years of large‑animal experience, after hours of failed attempts to capture the animal.
Palomino, who was asleep at midnight, rose immediately, loaded his truck and livestock trailer, and drove to the scene despite an early 4 a.m. shift.
Teamwork Secures the Animal
Authorities said the bull traveled several miles before deputies and CHP officers, with Palomino’s help, finally seized it by the horns.
Palomino used his expertise to load the bull safely into his trailer and arranged a secure holding spot until sunrise.
Department Praises Heroic Action
The sheriff’s department credited Palomino with preventing a serious collision or injury on the busy highway.
Capt. Allen and Half Moon Bay City Manager Chidester personally thanked him for answering the call and improving community safety.

By 2:30 a.m., the operation concluded, just 90 minutes before Palomino’s scheduled work start.
