Collins’ Claims
Collins labeled Ossoff a “trust fund kid” with no real job experience during the GOP midterm convention. He made the remark while speaking at the party’s midterm convention.
He warned that a victory would make Ossoff a national problem in 2028, calling him a future “DSA candidate.” If Ossoff wins, Collins says he will become a problem for the entire country.
Collins noted Ossoff’s voting record matches Sen. Bernie Sanders over 90% of the time and depends on out‑of‑state contributions. He said the alignment shows Ossoff is a progressive tool for national ambitions.
Ossoff’s Position
Ossoff denied any 2028 presidential ambitions, telling MSNOW last month he has “zero interest” in running. He emphasized that his focus remains on the Senate race.
He called Collins’ attacks “defenseless” and mocked Trump’s relationship with his assistant Natalie Harp in a viral clip. The comment sparked a news cycle and drew praise from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Schumer praised Ossoff as one of the top communicators targeting Trump. Schumer said Ossoff’s messaging is effective in shaping the narrative against Trump.
Race Stakes
Collins is seeking to unseat Ossoff in a race that could decide Senate control, with Georgia having voted Trump by nearly three points in 2024. The outcome will have major implications for the 2028 presidential landscape.
The incumbent is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats on the Senate map this cycle. His campaign faces intense scrutiny as the midterms approach.
