A Nigerian national who killed a UMass Dartmouth football player entered the U.S. on a tourist visa, overstayed it, and later received deferred action under both the Biden and Trump administrations, federal law enforcement sources told Fox News.
Charges and Incident
Chukwunonso Uzoma David Uzoma Eze faces murder charges for the stabbing death of 19‑year‑old Marvins Antoine during a parking‑lot altercation outside Mezzo Lounge in Providence, Rhode Island, early Saturday morning, police said.
Another UMass Dartmouth player, Kensley Macean, 19, suffered head and neck stab wounds and remains hospitalized at Rhode Island Hospital, according to the Providence Police Department.
Visa History
Eze first entered the United States in 2015 on a B‑2 tourist visa, multiple sources confirmed.
He obtained two extensions during the Obama administration before his authorized stay expired, they added.
Deferred action was granted in September 2022 under the Biden administration and renewed in February 2025 and again on October 8, 2025 under the Trump administration, the sources said.
Legal Consequences
Deferred action merely delays removal and does not confer lawful status, U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials noted.
If convicted, Eze will lose his deferred action protection, DHS warned.
He applied for employment authorization in August 2023, but the request was denied in September 2023; a new application filed in February 2025 remains pending, they said.
Arrest and Investigation
UMass Dartmouth Police located and arrested Eze after the stabbing, the department reported.
Providence police responded to the scene at about 12:30 a.m., finding the victims after an altercation that began inside the lounge, authorities added.
